One thing that a baby must do to finally come out of
his mother's uterus is to twist and turn through the pelvic outlet even after
his head comes out of his mother's birth canal. One part that the head must have
contact with is the bones of the pelvis. In turn, the pelvis has to absorb a
huge amount of pressure caused by the strong contraction of the uterus as the
baby's head is pushed against the bones-sacro-illiac joints and coccyx. The
coccyx is a small bone connected to the sacrum through the vestigial joint. As
the baby's head moves out of the pelvis, its position can be altered by
pressing onto the soft tissues of the muscles and ligaments and the coccyx.
Eventually, the mother may feel pain and discomfort
especially at the lower part of the spine and buttocks especially when sitting.
The same pain can be felt on the seat of the buttocks, which can become
extremely painful as the baby's head exerts its pressure against the bones and
muscles. Much pain can be felt when the coccyx position is altered. However,
with good osteopaths around, tension and pain can be eased out.
Good thing, osteopaths these days come with accurate
techniques such as using their knowledge on Anatomy and Touch to ease out the
tension and pain felt by the mother. In
this way, the coccyx can be returned to its normal position without causing
extreme pain.
